Jeanne Gehret’s New Book: Secrets to the Wind (Dauntless Series Book 1)

This enthralling Civil War novel will stir your senses as unlikely lovers embody the principles, passions and hazards of the antislavery movement and the Underground Railroad.

In Martha’s Vineyard in 1857, Annie Osborn helped guide a slave to safety on the Underground Railroad. But now, six years later, the cost of keeping that secret grows unbearable.

Annie’s heart belongs to Colonel Daniel Anthony, who mirrors his sister Susan B. Anthony’s commitment to end slavery. However, Annie’s father thwarts their romance at every turn, and Daniel is beset by problems in Bleeding Kansas when he’s jailed for lambasting a general.

Just when Annie decodes a letter that will safeguard her secret, a final obstacle emerges that could separate them forever.
